The Trojans kicked off the 2026 cross country season with a “light up” at the HOKA Night XC Showcase at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio.
With several PRs and plenty of strong performances, the night gave us a great opportunity to see where we are—and, more importantly, begin identifying the building blocks we’ll need to have a successful season. There is plenty of work ahead, but this was a fun way to get things rolling!
🏆 JV Boys — 4th Place
HS Boys Open Division | 27 Teams | 356 Runners
Our JV Boys were the top McDowell team finishers of the night, taking an impressive 4th place overall! And they made it a true family finish with three McDonough brothers leading the way!

Our JV Girls turned in a strong 8th-place finish!

Showcase Division | 48 Teams | 422 Runners
The Varsity Boys battled in a deep and competitive field, finishing 21st overall. Nolan Durst and Allan Wiertel both opened the season by breaking the 17-minute mark!

The Varsity Girls were led by Isabella Hebner, who finished an impressive 33rd overall and was our sole sub-20-minute runner of the night!

A season opener is about more than just times and places. It’s about getting our first opportunity to compete, learning where we stand, recognizing the areas where we need to improve, and beginning to build the team we want to become. This is just the start!
